TechnicalMy panels are designed with strict attention to detail and structure according to traditional techniques taking care to avoid the possibility of future sagging or cracking due to poor design. Every piece of glass is encased within a length of lead ‘came’ and each joint is soldered. When the panel is fully formed, leaded and soldered, lead-light cement is used to make the panel rigid and weatherproof. Where necessary copper ties are added to give extra strength using saddle bars. Finally, the lead is buffed to make it gleam and the glass is polished to a glittering shine. Modern building regulations often require windows to be double glazed. I work with glaziers to produce an approved solution. A leaded panel can be sandwiched inside a sealed glazed unit but a more aesthetic result is achieved if a panel is installed against the sealed unit (usually on the inside of the property); thus the different panes of the coloured glass can be viewed clearly from one side. Glazing in doors and in low windows and dividing interior screens may require ‘safety glass’. This can be achieved with a sandwich system or with the stained glass on one side of a safety glass panel. If you would like to discuss stained glass work further, please do not hesitate to contact me.
